WNBA champion Kelsey Plum and NFL tight end Darren Waller have initiated divorce proceedings after a year of marriage, as confirmed by PEOPLE.
On April 23, both Plum, 29, and Waller, 31, filed for divorce jointly in Clark County, Nevada, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.
Following the filing, Plum took to social media to express her sorrow. "I'm devastated. I walked through fire for that man, but now I see it's time to go," she shared on Instagram Stories.
Acknowledging the support from her loved ones, Plum continued, "God has given me an incredible life, and I'm truly so grateful for the profound love from my family and friends."
While she hinted at sharing her story in the future, Plum concluded with a message of gratitude and resilience. "One day I'll share my story, today is not that day. Thank you for the grace to process my pain, to forgive and move forward. Today and every day I will continue to choose joy. Much love KP," she wrote, adding a reference to Philippians 1:6.
Plum, a two-time WNBA champion with the Las Vegas Aces, and Waller began their relationship during Waller's tenure with the Las Vegas Raiders. They reportedly dated for around a year before getting married on March 4, 2023.
According to reports from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Plum and Waller obtained a marriage license on Jan. 22, 2023.
Following their marriage, Waller was traded to the New York Giants.
In an interview with PEOPLE just before the divorce filing, Waller contemplated his future in football, suggesting he might retire. "I'm at the point now where I'm like, 'Is this something that I want to continue to invest my time, invest my body, invest my mind in?' And I've got to come to a decision on that," he shared.
Expressing gratitude for his football career but hinting at other interests, Waller added, "And it's to the point where it's like, man, I don't feel like I've really done a lot. In some ways my life hasn't really started."
Plum, meanwhile, is gearing up for the upcoming WNBA season in May and is currently training with Team USA for the Summer Olympics in Paris.
