Wendy Williams' Care Team Reveals Dementia Diagnosis Ahead of Documentary Release

Wendy Williams attends the world premiere of Apple TV+'s "The Morning Show," Oct. 28, 2019, in New York. The former talk show host has been diagnosed with the same form of dementia that actor Bruce Willis has, according to a statement released Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024, on behalf of her caretakers. Former daytime talk show host Wendy Williams' care team has revealed her diagnosis.

Williams' care team says she was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia and Frontotemporal Dementia. In a statement released by her care team, they touched on the topic of previous rumors and wanting to address those rumors.

"Over the past few years, questions have been raised at times about Wendy's ability to process information and many have speculated about Wendy's condition, particularly when she began to lose words, act erratically at times, and have difficulty understanding financial transactions," the release says.

The statement also added that the decision to share the news was difficult, but in doing so, Williams and her team are hoping to raise awareness about aphasia and FTD.

"In 2023, after undergoing a battery of medical tests, Wendy was officially diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). Wendy would not have received confirmation of these diagnoses were it not for the diligence of her current care team, who she chose, and the extraordinary work of the specialists at Weill Cornell Medicine. Receiving a diagnosis has enabled Wendy to receive the medical care she requires," the statement continues.

Her team also went on to say Wendy is still able to do many things for herself and maintains her trademark sense of humor while receiving the care she requires. Primary progressive aphasia is a type of Frontotemporal dementia. Frontotemporal dementia is a cluster of disorders that results from the degeneration of the frontal or temporal lobes of the brain.

The reveal of her condition was released on the heels of her upcoming new Lifetime documentary Where Is Wendy Williams? airing Feb. 24, 2024.

I wish her the best. This is horrible news. Bruce Willis has the same illness and he hasn’t been doing so well. Sending prayers for her as she deals with this health condition.
