Simone Biles Leads USA Women’s Gymnastics Through A Clean Sweep Straight To Gold

The ladies came through and did what they needed to. The women's USA gymnastics team is golden yet again! Jordan Chiles, Sunisa Lee, Jade Carey, Hezly Rivera, and Simone Biles refer to themselves as the “Golden Girls.” #goldengirls

The fabulous five competed on four apparatuses: vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor. Through each rotation, they never dropped out of first place.

This achievement is the fifth gold medal for Biles, 27, the second for Lee and Carey, and the first for Chiles and Rivera, in which the latter did not compete in any apparatuses on Tuesday. Team USA had previously earned silver in this event at the Tokyo and Beijing Games, and gold in Rio and London.

Each of these ladies fought to make history in their own way. Biles has coined it as their "redemption tour."

Chiles, Carey, and Biles started the completion off strong on the vault where they all scored 14. Biles’ score was the highest at 14.900. Lee showed out completely on the balance beam scoring 14.600. She also scored a 13.533 on her floor routine, while Chiles and Biles scored 13.966 and 14.666, respectively. An American trio of Olympic veterans was expected to command the floor, and all three did their part to rise to the occasion.

"It was amazing to watch," U.S. gymnastics technical lead Chellsie Memmel told reporters after competition ended. "I know I was nervous throughout the whole competition, but they do their job."

Speaking of Biles, Memmel said it "speaks volumes of her strength," to be able to make this comeback. "We all knew she could do it, like that wasn't ever a question in my mind that she could do it and it continues to just solidify her place as the greatest gymnast of all time."

After Tuesday's victory, Biles is officially the most decorated gymnast in Olympic history surpassing Shannon Miller's seven-medal haul. The team win increased her medal count to 38 between Olympics and World Champions.

Team USA secured gold in the women's gymnastics team final at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday, July 30. This victory highlights a remarkable comeback for superstar Simone Biles, who led her team to triumph after withdrawing mid-competition from the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

Next up are the individual finals, starting with the all-around on August 1. Representing the U.S. will be Simone Biles and Sunisa Lee. Lee was awarded gold in Tokyo after Biles withdrew, making this the first time two all-around gold medalists will compete head-to-head at the Olympic Games.

Congratulations to the gymnastics ladies of Team USA!
