During a sit-down interview with the Daily Mail, Shanon, the biological mother of Simone Biles, said that she hopes her daughter will forgive her one day for her past. While the 52-year-old battled drug and alcohol addictions, she gave up Simone and her younger sister, Adria, to their grandfather and grandmother, Ron and Nellie Biles, when the girls were only toddlers.
“I would like to make amends with Simone personally — I’m just waiting for her and [her younger sister] Adria,” Shanon told the outlet. “I speak to Adria more than I speak to Simone. I would just ask her to forgive me. Can we move forward? Don’t judge me on my past. Let’s move forward. I’m waiting for the opportunity but I’m waiting on her to be able to come to me. Let’s sit down. I just have to be patient.”
This discussion follows the decorated gymnast's remarkable performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she earned four medals—three gold and one silver—bringing her career total to 11. The achievement is bittersweet.

Shanon also shared that she gathered friends and neighbors to watch the games back in Columbus, Ohio, where Simone and her sister once lived before moving through foster care and eventually being adopted by their grandparents in Texas.
“What I hear about Simone I hear through my dad. I speak to my dad all the time. We’re good now. It was just his birthday, and I called to wish him happy birthday,” Shanon added. “If I need to know anything I call my dad. I ask him about Simone, and he keeps me posted.”
Although she felt immense pride watching Simone continue to dominate in gymnastics, the two are not close and currently do not have direct communication with each other.
