As Simone Biles prepares to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Netflix is giving fans a look at what it took for the gymnast to get ready. The streaming service released a trailer on Wednesday, June 19 for a new documentary series showing the gymnast’s journey and personal life called, “Simone Biles Rising”.
The trailer begins with Biles reflecting on the 2020 Olympic Games, where she withdrew from the competition to focus on her mental health.
"I've always had really good intuition about things," Biles says. "And unfortunately, I felt that way about the Olympics."
The trailer includes footage of Biles seemingly making the decision to stop competing in 2020, and later returning to the gym to set her sights on Paris 2024. In one part of the video, Biles discussed wanting to quit, and credits the people around her as one of the reasons she kept going with her training, as clips of her family including husband, NFL player Jonathan Owens, played.
“I feel very grateful I get to write my own ending,” Biles said.
The four-episode series will premiere on Netflix Wednesday, July 17, days before the opening ceremony in Paris on July 26. "Simone Biles Rising" is produced by Religion of Sports Biles’ marking her second collaboration with the company, following the 2021 series, Simone vs. Herself.
