The rapper, named Megan Pete, announced that her organization, Pete and Thomas Foundation, would be partnering with the Bread of Life, Inc. to launch an emergency power program to provide senior citizens with generators, so they are able to have access to electricity in case of natural disaster.
Recently hurricane Beryl ripped through the Caribbean and Gulf Coast and left a whopping 2.7 million without power for days, resulting in 52 deaths in Texas. At least 6 people between the ages of 50 and 78 died of hyperthermia because they didn't have power in sweltering heat. The damage in the city has amounted to a total of $6 million dollars.
"It's been painful to watch the elderly population in Houston suffer without electricity during these devastating storms,” Megan said. “That’s why we wanted to partner with Bread of Life to take a strategic approach to this problem and secure generators to help protect our senior citizens. We need to do our part to provide our elders with the best resources possible to withstand future emergencies.”
Megan took to social media in an X post below to announce the partnership.
Megan founded the Pete and Thomas Foundation in 2022 as a way “to uplift and assist women, children, senior citizens and other underserved communities.” With a name to honor her late parents, the foundation’s website states it has helped more than 14,000 people in the past two years. #hottieshelping
“We want to expand our support of the most vulnerable people in the city, and Hurricane Beryl, the derecho, and other storms have highlighted that our seniors are in dire need of assistance,” said Rudy Rasmus, Executive Director and Founder of Bread of Life, Inc.
“Through our partnership with Megan Thee Stallion and her Pete and Thomas Foundation, we hope to provide generators to senior personal care homes this hurricane season. Our goal is to provide generators to our most vulnerable seniors ahead of storms or other events that knock out power so there is no interruption in service."
As a Houston native and #hottie myself, my love for Megan already runs deeply. Being able to witness someone on her level of success give back to my city is more than inspiring. My grandparents were effected during the storm, so seeing a Grammy award winning rapper contribute to the senior citizen community radiates a satisfying feeling all around. Shoutout to Megan and her team for their effort in rebuilding after such a tragic storm!
