Legendary actor James Earl Jones has passed away on Monday morning at his Dutchess County, N.Y. home, according to Deadline. Deadline also confirmed that his reps at Independent Artist Group told them the news.

Jones whose career spans across seven decades is often described as one of the greatest actors in American history. Famously known as the voice of Darth Vader from Star Wars, Jones’ unmistakable tone and diction was viewed by many as iconic.

Even though Jones is known as the iconic voice of Dark Vader, he also voiced The Lion King‘s Mufasa in both the 1994 animated pic and 2019 hybrid remake. An eight-time Emmy nominee, he won two times in 1991 for Lead Actor in a Drama series for Gabriel’s Fire and Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Special for Heat Wave.

The actor born on January 17, 1931, in Arkabutla, Mississippi, was once known for his stutter that he developed during childhood. After years of being self-conscious and timid in school, a high-school teacher helped him find and share his voice that became so iconic to the world.

Over the years, Jones was the recipient of many accolades, including a Kennedy Center Honor in 2002 and an honorary Academy Award in 2011. He is survived by his son, Flynn Earl Jones. He was 93.
