Keke Palmer, SZA R-Rated Comedy Lands Early 2025 Release From Sony

Keke Palmer and SZA will soon be sharing the screen again early next year.

Sony Pictures announced Friday that the untitled TriStar Films R-rated comedy movie starring the pair will hit theaters January 24, 2025. The plot details have not been shared, but Syreeta Singleton is the script writer while Lawrence Lamont is director. Rounding out the cast are Lil Rel Howery, Janelle James, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Maude Apatow, Katt Williams, Joshua Neal, Aziza Scott, Patrick Cage and Amin Joseph. A true star-studded lineup!

Producers include Issa Rae and Sara Diya Rastogi for Hoorae, Deniese Davis for ColorCreative, Charles D. King for Macro Film Studios, James Lopez and Poppy Hanks. Macro Film Studios is also financing the project that counts Singleton as a co-producer. Palmer and Sharon Palmer of Big Boss are executive producing.

Sony’s CoCre lab, a collaboration with ColorCreative, was designed to support emerging, diverse screenwriters in developing original feature films. This project is one of its outcomes. Keke Palmer previously hosted a 2022 episode of Saturday Night Live featuring musical guest, SZA. Lamont worked as a director on the Issa Rae created comedy series Rap Sh!t. Singleton previously wrote for Rap Sh!t and Insecure.

Palmer is recognized for her roles in films like Nope and Hustlers. Her upcoming projects include the heist comedy The Pickup, where she stars alongside Eddie Murphy, and Good Fortune, directed by Aziz Ansari, featuring Seth Rogen and Keanu Reeves. She’s also slated to lead the Peacock series remake of The Burbs and is attached to the Kevin Hart comedy The Backup.

For SZA, acting is a new endeavor. The singer is currently enjoying the success of her latest album *SOS*, which earned nine Grammy nominations and produced hit singles like "Kill Bill" and "Snooze."
