Netflix has just released a new docuseries that highlights the stories of prominent African queens. The docuseries, produced and narrated by Jada Pinkett-Smith has already been picked up for 2 seasons.
The 1st season of African Queens will tell the story of Queen Njinga of Angola, Njinga was the first female ruler of Ndongo and Matamba (modern day Angola). The 2nd season will cover the more publicized queen, Cleopatra. The series was filmed in South Africa and over the course of four 45 minute episodes we'll be immersed into the culture and rich history of these queens.
Jada says the inspiration behind the docuseries came from a conversation with her daughter Willow They came to the realization that there is not a lot of accessible content about Black queens and Jada knew something had to be done about it.
