Grammys Finally Gives Beyoncé The Award She Deserves

Updated: Feb 18

It seems like year after year, no matter how good of an album she created, Beyoncé could not score the highly sought after title in the Recording Academy -- Album of The Year.

The room was certainly filled with sky-high emotions after the 43 year old singer-songwriter's name was called onto the golden stage.

Members of the LA County Fire Department presented the award, and received a standing ovation themselves, paying tribute to those affected by the Los Angeles fires.

Beyoncé took country music by storm with her genre-defying album Cowboy Carter and became the most nominated artist of the year with 11 nods in categories including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Country Solo Performance, and more.

This album marks her fifth nomination in the album of the year category.

"Wow, I want to thank God that I'm able to still do what I love after so many years," Beyoncé said after she reached the stage. "Oh, my God, I'd like to thank all of the incredible country artists that accepted this, this album we worked so hard on it."

She dedicated her album of the year win to Linda Martell, the first commercially successful Black female country artist. Beyoncé’s “The Linda Martell Show” interlude on her album also serves as a tribute and has helped introduce more people to the now 83-year-old singer and her music.

After releasing Cowboy Carter, she posted on social media about the racist backlash she received after performing her song “Daddy Lessons” with the Dixie Chicks at the 50th Annual Country Music Awards in 2016.

“The criticisms I faced when I first entered this genre forced me to propel past the limitations that were put on me,” the Grammy-winner wrote in a social media post last year. “act ii is a result of challenging myself, and taking my time to bend and blend genres together to create this body of work.”

Kevin Frazier even scored an impromptu interview with the Queen Bey herself after the historic win. It's refreshing to witness Bey have a candid moment while allowing her victories to sink in. Check out the sweet moment below!

Beyoncé upholds the record for most Grammy wins and nominations: 35 and 99. She continues to push the culture forward and break the barriers that others try so desperately to box her in. An inspiration to so many, congratulations to her and all others involved who created such a timeless body of work.
