Flavor Flav, a founding member of the hip-hop group Public Enemy, is in Paris to fulfill his duties as the official hype man for the USA water polo team. The partnership came together after he connected with U.S. Captain Maggie Steffens on Instagram in May.
“I love all the support Women’s Water Polo is getting,” he captioned in the Saturday, July 27 post. The post also displayed a video of the rapper meeting First Lady Jill Biden at the water polo arena.

Steffens posted on Instagram about her experiences with the U.S. women's program, which has won three straight gold medals going into Paris. While honoring her teammates and expressing her love for her sport, Steffens also highlighted the constant financial struggle for most Olympic athletes.
According to 11 Alive, the issue was brought to his attention by his manager and the hip-hop legend promised to support the team in a comment on the athlete's post. Additionally, 11 Alive says Flav made an undisclosed financial contribution to the women's program as part of the five-year agreement, and he also agreed to collaborate on social media to help bring attention to the small sport. The rapper signed a five-year sponsorship deal as the official hype man for the USA Women’s and Men’s Water Polo national teams, which was announced on July 1 by USA Water Polo.
