Empowering Female Artists: A Celebration of Women's History Month

How amazing is it to be able to celebrate Black history throughout the month of February? While we are honored to be able to remember all of the contributions Black people have made in our history, the next month plays a significant role as well.

After February is over, women have their time to shine, too. Every year, March is designated Women's History Month by presidential proclamation. Originally, it started as a celebration in Santa Rose, California and lasted for a week. It's dedicated to reflect on the often-overlooked contributions of women to U.S. history. The celebration was organized by the school district of Sonoma, California in 1978 and did not stop there. Presentations were given at schools, essays were written in contest, and there was a parade held. Today, we celebrate numerous contributions women have continued to make throughout history.

It's no surprise that such powerful women would choose the first day of National Women's History Month to showcase their art to the world. Ledisi, Cardi B, and Chloe Bailey are all leading women in their own way. These ladies have dominated artistry in their own lanes for many years, and have truly made a significant statement by sharing their music with us today.

Ledisi

Ledisi Anibade Young known as Ledisi has been striving toward greatness since 1995. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana and raised in Oakland, California, her humble beginnings started with a band she formed called Aniblade. As of 2023, she has been nominated for 14 Grammy Awards, and won 1.

Today, Ledisi shares her 11th album "Good Life" with the world. She previews a snippet of her long-awaited music in an Instagram post online.

Along with her album announcement, Ledisi also shares a new track, "Perfect Stranger," feature Kenny Lattimore. Good Life is Ledisi's first album since her last release in 2020. The 13 track album is filled with feel-good music and celebrates life and romance.

Her tour kicks off on March 6th in York, Pennsylvania and ends in her hometown of Oakland, California.

Cardi B

Rapper Belcalis Cephus, better known as Cardi B, has been striving for greatness since the beginning. Born and raised in New York City, she originally gained popularity through Instagram and Vine. She appeared as a regular cast member on reality show Love and Hip Hop: New York, which showcased her humble beginnings and ambition toward a career in music.

Cardi B took to Instagram to share her upcoming drop with followers. Fans seem eager to listen to what Cardi has to share as well.

Cardi's track samples Missy Elliot's 1999 Da Real World track, "She's a B*****," and arrives with a music video directed by her husband Offset. The song titled "Like What (Freestyle)" is a dynamic set of lyrics where Cardi pops off like a firecracker in under 2 minutes. This selection is a mere reminder of why we all fell in love with her to begin with: she holds nothing back.

Chloe Bailey

The singer/songwriter/producer has given us a sultry-synth R&B track titled "FYS." In this record, she is not easily impressed by material things, and brings more to the table. The Atlanta native rose to prominence alongside her sister Halle Bailey as ChloexHalle, but has been dominating her career as a solo artist as well. She released her first solo debut album in 2023 titled "In Pieces."

Bailey shares cover art on her Instagram profile February 29th. It's obvious fans are eager to hear the long-awaited track.
