The Culture Certified Award aims to honor established and emerging black talent and seeks to recognize individuals who contributions "significantly impact, influence, and shape cultural landscapes at large."
This significant honor is presented by the Creative Collective in partnership with Prime Video's Culture Rated initiative. This program champions Black creatives, community, and perspectives across social media and events like CultureCon. #tobeyounggiftedandblack
The prize kicks off Fishback's 2024 strong. She broke through in 2023 and earned her first Emmy nomination for her exceptional performance as Dre in the Prime Video series “Swarm.”

Fishback has also been saluted by Indie Spirit Awards, Gotham Awards, the NAACP Image Awards, and more for her transformative work in the thrilling psychological series from co-creators Donald Glover and Janine Nabers. Last year, Fishback also starred in “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” an adventure which took place before the events of the first “Transformers” film and following those of “Bumblebee.”
Fishback has previously been nominated for a Critics Choice award for her performance alongside Samuel L. Jackson in “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey,” and she got a BAFTA nod for her portrayal of Black Panther party activist Deborah Johnson in the Academy Award-nominated film “Judas and the Black Messiah,” alongside Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield.
Not only is Fishback a renowned actress, she is also skilled in spoken word and is a playwright. In an interview with founder of CultureCon and The Creative Collective, Imani Ellis, she spoke about how she submerged herself into the world of writing as a young teenager in high school. Her drive and passion at such a young age is truly remarkable.
"Individuality really matters, and I think I'm not trying to be like anyone else anymore. And that's when I found my own style."
Her senior thesis at Pace University was a self-written one-woman 90 minute spoken word performance titled "Subverted." The piece explored Black identity and existence in a system rooted in equality from 20 different viewpoints. This was a pivotal moment just shy of the beginning of her career, and a great example of how Fishback wanted to make her mark. "For an hour and twenty minutes, this predominately white university has to sit in the truth of mine. And people who come from areas like mine," she expressed.
In 2021, Variety exclusively announced that Fishback partnered with her “Project Power” co-star, Oscar winner Jamie Foxx, to adapt the one-woman show into a new special. Fishback will play more than 20 characters in the show and will executive produce alongside Foxx and his producing partner Datari Turner. Can't wait to see that project come to life!
The Inaugural Creative Class celebration was held February 28th in New York to end Black History Month with a bang. The event is a celebration of Black culture-shifters across multiple disciplines including tech, social good, art, entertainment, fashion and beyond, who are “shaping culture, advocating for their community and building their vision from the ground up.” The 2024 cohort features 55 individuals, including Grammy-winning singer and “Bel-Air” star Coco Jones, Kara Young (“I’m A Virgo”), Jean Elie (“Insecure”), Jocelyn Bioh (“Jaja’s African Hair Braiding”) and Crystal Renee (“Sistas,” “Zatima”). #blackexcellence
Dominique has truly made an impact in the arts and the recognition is well-deserved. She is a clear example of what it looks like to advocate for yourself and to stay true to who you are at the core.
