After a five year hiatus Black Girls Rock! Awards is returning to television. The awards show which aired on BET from 2010 until 2019 will be shown this year on Lifetime. The show's grand return will be recorded live in Atlanta, Georgia on June 27 and air later this fall.
The city location for the televised debut was first announced on Friday, February 16 at the Atlanta City Hall by Black Girls Rock! founder Beverly Bond, and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. Also, it was announced that the celebration will take place at the iconic Fox Theatre. According to a press release the event will highlight a broader, city-wide Black Girls Rock experience which will feature a variety of events and celebrations throughout the city of Atlanta.
"Atlanta's vibrant cultural heritage provides the ideal backdrop for our celebration," Beverly Bond remarked. "Establishing the Black Girls Rock! Awards and the Black Girls Rock! Experience in Atlanta represents a critical juncture for our brand. Under Mayor Andre Dickens' ingenious leadership, characterized by his dedication to community, cultural enrichment, innovation, and equity, we are laying a robust groundwork for this trailblazing collaboration," Bond further stated.
Mayor Dickens also expressed his excitement for the upcoming awards show and the expected partnership.
"We are thrilled that Atlanta has been selected as the host city for the 2024 Black Girls Rock! Awards. Black Girls Rock! is a world-renowned celebration of the incredible resilience, strength, and accomplishments of black women and girls," said Mayor Andre Dickens.
The press release ended by saying as Atlanta gears up to welcome Black Girls Rock! the partnership signals the start of a long-term legacy of cultural celebration and empowerment. It amplifies the event's mission-driven focus, offering not just a celebration but a source of inspiration for future generations.
