20 years after her untimely death, Aaliyah's music is finally being released on streaming platforms starting this month.
The Grammy nominated songstress released several albums but all of them were not available to stream and fans have complained for years about it.
Her sophomore album One in a Million will be released first on Aug 20th to Spotify, Tidal, Amazon Music, Apple Music and other services.
The Romeo Must Die and Exit Wound soundtracks will drop on September 3rd followed by her third and final album Aaliyah on September 10th.
Lastly, 2 compilation albums I Care 4 U and Ultimate Aaliyah will be released on October 10th.
It seems that Aaliyah's estate is not happy with the decision seemingly showing it through this post on her verified IG account.
Aaliyah's uncle Barry Hankerson is the president of Blackground records, where Aaliyah was signed. He owns most of her catalog and has the right to release the music regardless of her estate. Supposedly, there's been a battle between the label and the estate for years. Hankerson says he didn't release the music out of respect for his sister, Aaliyah's Mom. Allegedly she didn't want to release the music because she just couldn't bear hearing her daughter's voice.
Either way, the music is on its way and fans couldn't be happier. A new generation to enjoy Aaliyah's music and carry on her legacy. 🕊💗
